Spring:

Maple Syrup Festival
When: Third Weekend in March

Where: Northwest of Waverly

Welcome spring by attending the annual Maple Syrup Festival at Mapleberry Farms. Your hosts, Gale and Sharon Rickey invite you to bring the whole family and enjoy a day at the sugarhouse. There are guided walking tours through the sugarbush, maple syrup production demonstrations from pioneer methods to modern evaporation, and lots of samples - including pancake dinners all day!
Spring Literary Arts Festival
When: Mid April
This Year: April 16 - 18, 2010
Where: McArthur

Every April, the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library hosts the Spring Literary Arts Festival. The festival includes appearances and presentations by several Pulitzer Prize winning and bestseller authors, live musical performances, plays, a quilt raffle, a guided tour of Vinton County, and much more.
Pike County Dogwood Festival
When: Last full weekend in April
This Year: April 22 - 25, 2010
Where: Piketon

You know spring has officially sprung when it’s time for the annual Dogwood Festival! The last full weekend in April, the streets of Piketon are filled with exhibits highlighting old-fashioned arts and crafts, an antique car show, a bike show, a cyclists Dogwood Tour, fiddle and banjo contests, a pie eating contest, horseshoe contests, band concerts, and lots of good old-fashioned food. Attracting about 10,000 people each year, this event is a must see.
Athens International Film and Video Festival
When: Late April / Early May
This Year: April 23 - 29, 2010
Where: Athens and Nelsonville

Since 1974, the International Film and Video Festival has been attracting audiences and acclaimed directors. Catch a short film, documentary, or an indie feature-length film. You’ll see the best of the best, after festival organizers with the Athens Center for Film and Video screen over 600 entries to determine which ones make the cut.
Outdoor Extravaganza
When: First Saturday in May
This Year: May 1, 2010
Where: Morgan County Fair Grounds, McConnelsville

Over $300,000 in prizes! The Outdoor Extravaganza is a fundraising event held by the Malta-McConnelsville Kiwanis Club and the Twin Community Jaycees. The proceeds of the event will be directed to scholarships for Morgan County students and investment in community-wide projects for the residents.
Vinton County Wild Turkey Festival
When: Early May
This Year: May 6 – 9 , 2010
Where: McArthur

Every May the Vinton County Wild Turkey Festival comes alive in the streets of downtown McArthur. This festival is famous for its top-notch entertainment, food, crafts, rides, car show, quilt show, queens and baby contests, grand parade, and more. Past musical entertainment has included Lee McCormack, LoCash Cowboys and many others!

Nelsonville Music Festival
When: Mid May
This Year: May 14-16, 2010
Where: Hocking College, Nelsonville

Stuart’s Opera House, collaborating with the Nelsonville Historic Arts District, hosts the Nelsonville Music Festival at historic Robbins Crossing. Folks will have the opportunity to listen to some great tunes from a wide variety of bands and patronize regional artists and craftspeople, including the Nelsonville Historic Art District merchants who will have booths set up to sell their handiwork. And don’t forget to stop by to enjoying cuisine from local food vendors.

 

Oak Hill Village Festival of Flags
When: Memorial Day Weekend
This Year: May 27 & 31, 2010
Where: Oak Hill

Oak Hill Village Festival of Flags celebrates patriotism and the US flag. During the festival, over 2,000 flags are displayed throughout the village. Festival events are hosted at Aetna Park with continuous free entertainment all weekend long. Rides, crafts, food booths, a baby contest, a dog show, an old car show, and historic exhibitions are just a few of the activities.
Reinersville (Muskingum Valley) Trader Days
When: Memorial Day Weekend
This Year: May 28-31, 2010
Where: Reinersville Community Park

Twice each year, spring and fall, vendors from across the Midwest converge on this community and set up shop buying or bartering all manner of goods from guns and knives, to hunting dogs and antiques.


Ohio Valley Opry

When: 3rd Saturday of every month
Where: Twin City Opera House, McConnelsville

Produced by and starring the Clark Family, the Opry, is a premier country, bluegrass, and gospel music show, held at the the Twin City Opera House in downtown McConnelsville. It plays to sold out audiences every month and brings crowds to the downtown shops and restaurants. 



Final Fridays

When: Last Friday of Every Month
Where: Nelsonville Public Square

On the final Friday of every month, except December, galleries and retail shops on Nelsonville's Historic Square stay open late to feature special art events. Vendors, art show openings, and often shows at the recently-renovated Stuart's Opera House are all part of the celebration. The Public Square is a vibrant, historic downtown filled with dozens of art galleries, and unique eating establishments.

Summer:

Gold Wings and Ribs Festival
When: Early June
This Year: June 4 & 5, 2010
Where: Pomeroy
Early June is the season for the Gold Wings and Ribs Festival. This annual event is held along the riverfront in Pomeroy. Motorcycle enthusiasts come from all over to enjoy this weekend event. But don’t be fooled – you don’t have to own a motorcycle to enjoy this event – there is something for everyone. The festival is an area-wide event and provides tours of several of the area’s great communities and attractions as well as some of the most beautiful country side in the United States. Other activities include live music, nightly entertainment, parades, food vendors, “Art in the Park”, and so much more.

Ribs, Rhythm, & Blues Festival
When: Early June
This Year: June 5, 2010
Where:Union Hall Theater, Chesterhill

This festival features a full fantastic line-up of blues and jazz musicians from around the region and state that appear on stage in the restored Union Hall Theater. And of course the ribs!

Elm Grove Days
When: Early June
This Year: TBA
Where: Elm Grove

In early June, the streets of Elm Grove come alive with a variety of exhibits and events. Quilts, arts and crafts, add a greased pig contest, kids’ games, a queen pageant, spinning and weaving demonstrations, daily fish fry, home-cooked meals, live music, and auctions are some of the most popular events. This event offers a relaxed family atmosphere for everyone.
 
Poston Lake Bluegrass Festival
When: Mid June
This Year: June 18 & 19, 2010
Where: Guysville

Love that old-time bluegrass music? If so, the Poston Lake Bluegrass Festival is just what you’ve been looking for! Taking place every June for more than 20 years, Poston Lake hosts one of the Midwest’s most popular bluegrass events. Come join in the fun!
Pike Lake Appalachian Music Festival
When: Late June
This Year: June 26, 2010
Where: Pike Lake State Park near Bainbridge

Every June, musicians from all over Southeast Ohio get together and share their love for bluegrass music. You won’t be able to keep your feet from tapping to the beat as the music fills the hills. Bring the whole family to Pike Lake State Park to enjoy the spectacular music, great food, and good old fashion family fun!

Annual 4th of July Wing Ding
When: 4th of July

Where: Piketon

Every 4th of July Piketon invites everyone to this celibration at Enrichment Park. Free food, entertainment, and fun for the whole family.

Waverly Street Festival
When: Second weekend in July
This Year: July 10 & 11, 2010
Where: Downtown Waverly

The Waverly Street Festival is a weekend filled with music, food, art, crafts, and fun. Activities include live music, walking tours of historic Waverly homes, hay rides along the Ohio-Erie Canal Historic Trail, games, and a poker run.

Civil War Encampment Days 
When: Second Weekend in July
This Year: July 9-11, 2010
Where: Downtown McConnelsville

Civil War Reenactors line the streets of downtown McConnelsville during the annual Civil War Encampment Days. Most activities are open to both reenactors and the general public and provide something for every taste and interest.

Ohio Brew Week
When: Mid July
This Year: July 12-18, 2010
Where: Uptown Athens

Ohio Brew Week is celebrated during a weeklong festival in the city of Athens. Visitors enjoy tasting craft beers, cooking with beer demonstrations, and learning the unusual history of beer and taverns while relaxing in historical Athens. Every year the festival grows bigger featuring more brewing seminars, brew talks, brews to sample, contests, and beer-flavored foods!

Chester Shade Day
When: Mid July
This Year: July 17 & 18, 2010
Where: Chester Courthouse, Chester

Every year the people of Chester Shade Days get together to honor and celebrate their colorful past and bright future. The festival takes place at the Chester Courthouse and commons in Chester. Some of the attractions include pioneer demonstrations and displays, baking and pie contests, a harmonica contest, story telling, quilt displays, crafts, a parade and much more. Admission is free.

Jackson County Fair
When: Mid July
This Year: July 19 - 24, 2010
Where: Jackson County Fair Grounds, Wellston

Come enjoy what Jackson County has to offer! Every July, the people of Jackson County get together to celebrate the year’s harvest. The county fair is a great place to experience the simpler side of life. With livestock exhibits, horticulture displays, entertainment, rides, games, and more - there is something for everyone!

Big Bend Blues Bash
When: Late July
This Year: July 29 - 31, 2010
Where: Outdoor Riverside Amphitheater, Pomeroy
Starting in 1999, the Pomeroy Blues and Jazz Society has been putting on a top-notch blues extravaganza along the scenic Ohio River. Every July, the Big Bend Blues Bash brings great music and fabulous food to the Riverside Amphitheater. Come and enjoy the blues!

Vinton County Junior Fair

Where: Vinton County Fair Gounds, McArthur

Come enjoy what Vinton County has to offer! Every July, the people of Vinton County get together to celebrate the year’s harvest. Pike County Fair

Lake Alma Beach Party

Where: Lake Alma State Park

The Lake Alma Beach Parry is nothing short of fun, sun, and sand! Every summer, local communities gather at Lake Alma State Park for the annual outdoor festivities. This day long party features music, games, a 5K rum, pretty baby contest, triathlon, beach volleyball, basketball games, bicycle races, swimming events, and much more.

Pig Iron Day
When: Early August
This Year: August 7, 2010
Where: Manpower Park, Jackson

Pig Iron Day is an annual event celebrating the importance of iron in the early development of Jackson County. The name comes from the molten iron that flows from the hearth in the base of the furnace stack, through the trench of red iron, and into the many short side branches to form bars of iron that would be shipped to various locations for remanufacturing.

Athens County Fair

Meigs County Fair

Where: Meigs County Fair Grounds, Pomeroy

Ridgetop Music Festival
When: Mid August
This Year: August 14, 2010
Where: Vinton County Airport, New Plymouth
The annual family-friendly event features local and regional musicians, storytelling, crafts, delicious food, split-the-pot, and airplane rides.
The event spotlights traditional and bluegrass music and even offers "Five Minutes of Fame" segments for individuals who want to stand up and sing a song.
Parade of the Hills
When: Mid August
This Year: TBA
Where: Nelsonville Public Square, Nelsonville

The festival promises something for everyone. Whether you're old, young, or somewhere in between, the Parade of the Hills has something for you! Each night features tons of entertainment on each of three stages, as well as the Arts on the Square, a top-notch midway, professional and local food vendors, and much, much more!

Wellston Coal Festival
When: Early September
This Year: September 7 - 11, 2010
Where: Wellston, Jackson County

Wellston invites you to enjoy good old-fashioned small town hospitality at the Wellston Coal Festival. The event takes place annually the first Tuesday through Saturday after Labor Day and is a celebration of the city’s rich coal mining heritage. Some of the highlights include nightly entertainment, fabulous food, rides and games, youth activities, car and antique show, the Coal Miner Olympics, tours of a working coal mine, and much more.


Sternwheel Festival
When: Mid September
This Year: September 16 - 18, 2010
Where: Pomerory river front

Every September, Pomeroy hosts the Sternwheel Riverfest “Rally by the River”. This three-day festival attracts Sternwheelers and pleasure boaters from all over. Activities include live entertainment, parades, a chili cook off, a line throwing competition, a Sexy Men's Legs Contest, crafters, food vendors, children's activities, and so much more.

Ohio Pawpaw Festival
When: Mid September
This Year: September 19 & 20, 2010
Where: Lake Snowden, Albany

The Ohio Pawpaw Festival is a one-of-a-kind event. One weekend in mid September, pawpaw fanatics get together at the peak of the season to celebrate this unique native Ohio fruit. The festival has everything pawpaw – ice cream, beer, music, art, history, trees, and so much more. Smell, touch, taste, and fall in love with this wonderful tropical-flavored fruit that has been growing in America for thousands of years and is considered Ohio's first fruit.


Vinton County Airshow

When: Mid September
This Year: September 19, 2010
Where: Vinton County Airport, near Creola

For well over 30 years Vinton County has been putting a fantastic fun filled air show. Hosted by the Vinton County Airport, this is the largest free air show in Ohio. The event will feature plane rides, acrobatic flying, RC flying and all sorts of fun in the skies along with the best barbeque chicken in Ohio.

Jackson County Apple Festival
When: Mid to Late September
This Year: September 21 - 25, 2010
Where: Downtown Jackson

The Jackson County Apple Festival is the perfect fall festival that takes place every year in mid September. This is one of the biggest festivals around, attracting people from across the US. Started in 1937, the festival has grown into quite the event and is now recognized as a National Geographic site. This weeklong festival features rides, a craft show, quilting demonstrations, a car show, contests, great local foods, parades, entertainment - including country, bluegrass and gospel music, karaoke, and a competition for local and state high school and university bands – and so much more!

Beaver Oktoberfest

Where: Beaver

The annual Beaver Oktoberfest is a fun filled festival celebrates the German heritage of this southern Ohio town. Brats and sauerkraut are just a sampling of the scrumptious offering from this ethnic festival with a fun filled family atmosphere. Attraction include an indoor craft show, antique and kiddie tractor pull, horseshoe pitching contests, 3 on 3 basketball, Queens' tea, live entertainment, home made food, and much more. The festivities are topped off with a large parade on the final day.

Hickory Ridge Festival
When: Early October
This Year: October 2, 2010
Where: Artists & Orchardists of Hickory Ridge, Near Malta

This annual festival features a diverse group of home-based artists and agri-businesses offering for sale one-of-a-kind art, crafts, food, furniture and antiques. The festival will also include live entertainment, food and demonstrations of various arts and crafts.
Harvest Fest
When: Early October
This Year: TBA
Where: Chesterhill

The annual Harvest Festival is a non-electric festival celebrating the year’s harvest.  Things to do at the festival include the quilt show, pumpkin painting for the kids, craft displays and demonstrations, soup beans and apple butter over an open fire and this year we will be adding a car, tractor and motorcycle show to the line up as well as live entertainment.
Reinersville (Muskingum Valley) Trader Days
When: 3rd Weekend in October
This Year: October 16-17, 2010
Where: Reinersville Community Park

Twice each year, spring and fall, vendors from across the Midwest converge on this community and set up shop buying or bartering all manner of goods from guns and knives, to hunting dogs and antiques.
Foothills Arts Festival
When: Mid October
This Year: October 15 - 17, 2010
Where: Canter's Cave, near Jackson

Sponsored by the Southern Hills Art Council, the Foothills Arts Festival is a two day event dedicated to Appalachian Ohio artists. The event features over 600 works of art from more than 140 local and regional artists all on display at scenic Canter’s Cave.

Bristol Village Fair
When: Mid October
This Year: TBA
Where: Weverly

Every October the residents of Bristol Village display and sell their unique creations. And it keeps getting bigger very year. All items are handmade and include jewelry, toys, dolls, woven items, paintings, Christmas décor, plant and garden items, stained glass, and much more. The event also hosts a white elephant sale and has hourly door prize drawings.

ROAR Day
When: Late October
This Year: October 30, 2010
Where: Lake Hope State Park

The Rural Ohio Appalachia Revisited (ROAR) Day is a celebration of Appalachian culture. The day-long festival features demonstrations of traditional skills such as basketweaving, woodcarving, pottery making, and quilting. The day wouldn’t be complete without listening to some bluegrass music and tasting some old fashioned foods like apple butter and cider.


Ohio Valley Opry

Jingle Bell Weekend
When: Late November

Where: Waverly

Jingle Bell Weekend is a great way to catch that holiday spirit! The festivities kick off with the lighting of Canal Park, where thousand of Christmas lights set this historic park aglow. The Candy Cane Variety show, wine tasting, art show, illuminated Christmas parade, and historic homes tour are among the most popular activities.


Olde Tyme Christmas in the Village

When: 1st Saturday in December
This Year: December 4, 2010
Where: McConnelsville

Olde Tyme Christmas in the Village is a great was to get into the holiday spirit. The quaint shops in downtown McConnelsville stay open late and server traditional refreshments and snacks. While Christmas Carolers can be heard on Main Street. Free horse drawn carriage rides, a large craft show, and the Ohio Valley Opry Christmas show are some of the highlights.



Appalachian Days
When: Third Weekend in Januaray
This Year: January 15, 16, & 17, 2010

Where: Burr Oak State Park
Appalachian Days is a three day event celebrating traditional Appalachian craft, art, food, music, and more.


Ohio Valley Opry
