The Adventure…
All Aboard! This interactive museum offers visitors a chance to climb aboard a historic passenger train and leisurely ride through the beautiful hilly countryside of Southeast Ohio. The passenger cars, meticulously restored by volunteers, are historic treasures unto their own: a former B&O heavyweight combination baggage and passenger car built in 1918, three Rock Island commuter cars built in the 1920s, and the latest addition – a heavyweight day-coach railcar which originally served the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad through the 1950s. The cars run on the same tracks used in the late 1800s and early 1900s to transport coal to central Ohio and up to Lake Erie. Today the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway has come back to life. Rain or shine, trains depart from Nelsonville’s Station (US 33 at Hocking Parkway) every weekend from the first Saturday after April 15th and continue through the first weekend of November. It’s a great way to see the fall foliage or to take a train ride with Santa Claus!
