The Adventure…
Desonier State Nature Preserve encompasses 491 acres of diverse Appalachian Ohio habitat. It’s a wonderful place for the true nature lover because Ohio’s State Nature Preservers are primarily intended for passive recreation, nature observation, research, and education. The mature forest is home to an array of wildflowers, butterflies, and songbirds. Some of the more interesting plants growing here are weak aster, green adder's-mouth orchid, and Virginia meadow-beauty. Mistletoe, a parasitic plant on trees, has also been spotted at this preserve. The preserve features a loop trail, the Oak Ridge Trail. This trail can be hiked in a 2-mile loop or as a 2.5-mile loop.

Getting there’s Half the Adventure…
Desonier State Nature Preserve is located in southwestern Athens County a few miles south of Stewart. Take US Route 50 and turn left on Township Road 117C. Proceed for 0.8 miles and turn left on County Road 65. Go 0.2 miles to where County Road 65 turns left, then proceed 0.7 miles to the parking area on the left.
